Chair, Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners
Stan Whittaker is a Family Nurse Practitioner and Co-Founder and Chairman of the Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners (FLANP) as well as the President of the Florida Panhandle Nurse Practitioner Coalition. Stan became involved in nurse practitioner legislative issues in 2007 and began attending meetings of the Florida Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses. In 2008 he joined the Florida Nurse Practitioner Network Legislative Committee and began visiting the capital speaking on behalf of nurse practitioners. In addition to chairing FLANP, he also serves as the vice-chair of the Legislative Committee. Stan meets regularly with Florida legislators and testifies at relevant committee meetings. He was asked to testify to Governor Rick Scott’s transition team on nurse practitioner issues. Stan’s frequent testimony at state committee meetings has led Florida officials to appoint him as the first Nurse Practitioner on Florida state’s Medicaid Advisory Council.
In 2011 Stan successfully co-led efforts for FLANP to become the American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) Florida State Affiliate. This relationship culminated in legislative change and Florida’s Centers for Medicaid and Medicare officially recognizing nurse practitioners as primary care providers. FLANP was awarded ACNP State Affiliate of the Year Award in 2012 for these efforts. Stan actively coordinates review of state rules and regulations. His efforts have lead to hundreds of pro-nurse practitioner rule changes.
